The mission of MERD INDIA FOUNDATION is to promote awareness about Inborn Errors of Metabolism and to provide Moral as well as Informative Support to the parents of such children and to campaign for compulsory newborn screening in India.

About MERD INDIA FOUNDATION (A 'Not for Profit Company' Registered under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013)

Metabolic Errors and Rare Diseases Organisation of India (MERD India) was conceived by two parents - Vikas Bhatia and Poonam Bhatia ,who wanted to set up a parent support and advocacy organization in India. The vision was to have a forum of like-minded individuals who can promote & help spreading awarenesses about significance of early detection of Inborn Errors of Metabolism and Rare Diseases, and thereby save and support thousands of lives.

Founder Member

Vikas Bhatia graduated in commerce

Got involved in promoting awareness for Inborn Errors of Metabolism & Rare Genetic Disorders after his third son's death. All the three were born with rare metabolic disease Pyruvate Carboxylase Deficiency . After that incident, he decided to help parents who are facing the similar kind of problem. Now his life's objective is to provide moral and informative support to the parents of IEMs suffering children and to campaign newborn screening in India.
